February 8, 2008 / Duke Nukem 3D

Introduction
This is a new map released in town that even makes Mikko call it “the most detailed Duke3D map as of today”. Below is tweaked translation from the text file.

The teleporter used to return to land lost its resonance frequency and the antimatter was absorbed by an electric storm, apparently caused by a rare mineral that was found inside a coke mine. This none other allows the teleportation in large quantities, which generates a magnetic field capable of changing the polarity of the electric current in a radius of 5 to 10 km, and because of their qualities they are operated by the hydroelectric company in the area where this was found. Duke’s problem is that communications are totally interrupted by the release of such mineral of a violet capsule that was accidentally destroyed. You must venture into the mine to locate the core of the ore and destroy it while avoiding more invasive aliens.

General
Here we have a rather decent map which actually rivals those made by Valve in the original game, and plays out in a similar fashion. The big difference, is that you’ll be needing to put a little bit more thought into solving the puzzles. Although rather short, there’s plenty to do and a lot of elements from the original game make a comeback here and worked with the puzzles consistently and fairly. You shouldn’t find too much difficulty with this one as things remain enjoyable, rare deaths and good sense of flow between areas.

Introduction
Duke was supposed to be the subject of a top-secret cloning project, but the robotic train that was transporting him in cryo-stasis has crashed… Mars colony is under attack.

Gameplay
The map itself is rather large, and the transition between area can be rather unlinear a majority of the time which actually remained immersive than an annoyance. It’s not exactly possible to get lost in this one while exploring the dark interiors of the colony or the baren, red desert landscape of Mars itself in a very consistent manner.

Introduction
The sewer system of Helltown wasn’t always what it should have been. Bad maintanance and the illegal dumping of chemical waste have made it into one of the most dangerous places (next to Duke’s toilet). Since many years no-one dares to go down there. The machines just keep running but for how long? It wasn’t very long ago since the first monsterious sounds from the sewers where heard by the people living above. The city council didn’t took much time to come up with a decision. Some one needed to go down and verify what’s going on. Luckily for them they picked you for this revolting job. So grab your pistol and put on a gasmask because it ain’t gonna be pretty. You’re going down Duke, to shoot stupid monsters.

Introduction
The successor of “The City of The Damned”, a ZDoom map featuring resources from the Monolith game “Blood”, this time featuring dynamic lights and other nifty sourceport additions in GZDoom. Expect a moody, dark and scary city filled with zombies, cultists and evil demons. Another quality release from Tormentor which doesn’t disappoint, though this time round it’s something quite different from his usual projects, so let’s see what is in store for us.

October 27, 2007 / Strife: Quest for the Sigil

Gameplay
The Order have returned and taken over your headquarters. So the task is simple, to once again stop them and take everything back once more. The level will start by placing you in a cell with a acolyte guarding outside and upon escaping that area you are given some simple objectives to complete during the course of the level. Gameplay is mostly button pushing and fighting off you foes to reach the next location, however there are a few interactions with some NPCs.

July 28, 2007 / Half Life 2

Gameplay
You take the role as Jamil Lee who was caught and imprisoned in Nova Prospekt. The door of your cell opens of which you decide to take revenge and cause your own riot act. You take control just inside your cell and the adventure starts pretty much here and throughout a series of maps that take place in Nova Prospekt. However the modification is a very enjoyable one at that with plenty of variety, action and locations with a decent sense of flow. This one includes some new voice acting, not a whole lot but a good amount to make some of the cutscenes feel fresh when encountering them, such as the one at the start after going up the flight of stairs.

Quite a dull experience, except for the new features and boss fight, which is set in some average looking levels with bad transition between them.
